Spanish energy and petrochemical company Repsol has reportedly announced an investment of €26 million to launch a new recycled plastic production line (Reciclex line) at its Puertollano Industrial Park in Spain.
The new line is expected to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2024 and will have an annual production capacity of 25,000 tons of recycled plastic, almost double the current annual capacity of 16,000 tons. According to the company, the new recycled plastic production line will make the Puertollano center a benchmark for the circular economy on the Iberian Peninsula. Repsol said the new unit will generate 200 direct, indirect and induced jobs during the different stages of construction, startup and operation.
The investment will help the company produce plastics for rigid and flexible packaging for non-food purposes, such as cleaning product containers or product packaging bags. In particular, the new unit will process HDPE and LDPE materials with 10% and 80% recycled plastic content.
The investment is in line with current European and Spanish regulations that aim to achieve a 30% recycled content target for plastic packaging by 2030.
