As a beer brand that actively advocates a beach lifestyle, Corona has an inseparable connection with the ocean. On the 15th World Oceans Day this year, Corona announced its 2023 marine environmental protection goals, recycling 279 tons of plastic waste in China to accelerate the realization of the brand's beautiful vision of zero plastics - "Continuously reduce plastic for this sea."
Plastic payment, unlocking new ways to reduce plastic
In order to accelerate the goal of recycling 279 tons of plastic waste throughout the year, Corona has joined forces with HEMA to create a new payment concept in offline stores in Shenzhen since Ocean Day - Plastic Pay, aiming to layout consumers' daily life scenes in the form of plastic monetization, thereby encouraging the concept of plastic reduction consumption to penetrate consumers' minds and ultimately put environmental protection actions into practice in life.
During the event, Corona also co-branded with HEMA to customize eco-friendly bags, turning every shopping bag into a carrier for reducing plastic. Consumers can go to HEMA supermarket to pick up zero-plastic shopping bags and recycle and pack the plastic waste generated in daily life. When shopping in the store, consumers can deliver the collected plastic waste to the plastic recycling machine, which will complete the exchange of different amounts according to the weight of the plastic waste. Consumers can receive the corresponding amount of discount in the HEMA APP for consumption order payment.
Hema's head of sustainable development, Shen Li, said: "I am very happy to work with Corona to advocate a sustainable lifestyle. Hema is also actively exploring more sustainable lifestyle issues and building positive initiatives and influence with sustainable partners. Just as Corona's exploration in advocating for the protection of the marine ecological environment has inspired more people to join the public welfare team to protect the ocean."
Protect the blue and practice the original intention with action
It is worth mentioning that Corona has also teamed up with Tmall flagship store and Cainiao Logistics to accelerate the development of plastic reduction in transport packaging with environmentally friendly paper structures and vibration-damping packaging, greatly reducing the impact on the environment. In addition, Corona has also linked with organizations such as Equinox, Blue Ribbon, and Langjian Society to continue to carry out beach cleaning operations, so that the concept of plastic removal can penetrate into the lives of more people. At the same time, Corona will co-create a marine protection short film with Equinox this year, and conduct a 12-hour underwater ghost fishing net and plastic garbage cleaning operation in Wanning with many ocean enthusiasts and marine protection experts. The whole process will also be presented to the audience in the form of live broadcast, in order to awaken the public's awareness of marine protection and call on more people to implement the concept of environmental protection with practical actions. From the beach to the deep sea, Corona's firm belief in marine protection and the brand's social responsibility are demonstrated.
Mr. Wen Junhao, head of Corona China Brand, said: "For many years, as a beer brand that actively advocates a beach lifestyle, Corona has insisted on practicing marine protection. Through its own actions and innovative practices, it has linked multiple parties to effectively reduce the production of plastics, actively recycled plastics, and engraved marine protection into the brand DNA. In the future, Corona will continue to innovate public welfare actions, with forms of expression that are easier to touch the public and inspire thinking, gather the power of all parties, encourage more consumers to participate in marine protection, help protect the marine ecological environment, and inject clean power into marine plastic recycling and sustainable development."
