Currently, Volvo, Huayu Vision, Covestro, and Freya Magre have demonstrated their strength in the research and development of environmentally friendly automotive materials. The innovation of PCR recycled plastics has injected new vitality into the green development of the automotive manufacturing industry.
Freya's MATER'ACT: Asia's first marine PCR recycled plastic car door panel
Freya plans to further expand its materials business in recent years. In 2022, MATER'ACT, a company for sustainable material development and production, was established. At this year's CHINAPLAS 2024 International Rubber and Plastics Exhibition, MATER'ACT officially debuted in China and showcased a number of sustainable modified material solutions, including the Plastic Odyssey door panel, which was launched in Asia for the first time.
It is reported that the car door panel uses blue engineering plastic instead of black petroleum-based materials. The engineering plastic material is made of Plastic Odyssey material and oyster shells collected from the beach. Marine plastic combined with biomass can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20%, which will help Maijirui achieve its goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 85%.
In addition to the Plastic Odyssey door panels, Maijirui also brought a series of recyclable materials, including the sustainable compound Inicycled containing 20%-80% recyclable components, NAFILean-R, which combines 20% natural hemp fiber with 100% recycled polypropylene matrix, and the composite material NAFlLean Vision. The application areas are not limited to the automotive, home appliance and other industries.
Covestro and Huayu Vision: PCR recycled plastics, in-depth cooperation on closed-loop recycling model for automotive lamps
Covestro has been cooperating with Huayu Vision, a Chinese automotive lamp supplier, for many years to create a closed-loop recycling business model, ensure the quality and traceability of recycled plastics, and provide Huayu Vision with high-performance recycled polycarbonate plastics for manufacturing automotive lamps.
This year at CHINAPLAS 2024, Covestro and Huayu Vision further deepened their cooperation and formally signed a memorandum of cooperation. In the future, the two parties will jointly develop low-carbon emission, bio-based, recycled materials and technologies, and explore the commercial application and business model of sustainable materials for headlights. At the same time, the two parties also collaborated to build an innovation platform to continuously research, verify and apply solutions that can improve product performance.
Volvo: 30% PCR recycled plastic charging pile
Recently, Volvo launched a new recycled plastic charging pile, containing 30% PCR ingredients, which attracted the attention of many industry insiders. So far, recycled plastics are rare in the field of charging piles with relatively high safety requirements, and PCR recycled materials may also have black spot impurities and performance impacts.
It is understood that the display panel of Volvo charging pile uses halogen-free flame-retardant V-0 grade transparent PC material, reaching 30% PCR content. In addition to meeting environmental protection requirements, it can also ensure the basic performance of PC material used as a charging pile, meet the flame retardant requirements of charging piles, and the transparency is comparable to conventional non-flame retardant transparent PC. In terms of flame retardant grade, the glow wire flammability temperature is 960℃, and the electrical performance is also good, reaching 275V without electrical tracking failure.
