        Family-owned Bacardi is making progress toward its mission to eliminate single-use plastics from its gift collections by the end of 2023, a significant milestone that will reduce the amount of single-use plastics used by Bacardi by nearly 275 tons per year. To achieve this achievement, the company has adopted innovative designs that eliminate plastics or replace them with sustainably sourced alternatives. The new 100% plastic-free gift packs will be available in select markets around the world throughout the holiday season.

        Beginning this month, new gift packs across the entire BACARDÍ portfolio, including BACARDÍ® Reserva Ocho rum, GREY GOOSE® vodka, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® Premier Cru, MARTINI® vermouth, PATRÓN® tequila and DEWAR’S® 12 Year Old Blended Scotch whisky, are now 100% plastic-free in preparation for the busy holiday season. In addition to using Forest Stewardship Council® certified cardboard, the company has also taken the lead in using alternative materials, becoming the first spirits company to use a new bio-based, 100% compostable packaging material for its ABERFELDY® 12 Year Old ‘Gold Bar’ gift packs. The sustainable material is made from potato starch and cellulose fibers and replaces the previous plastic vacuum packaging.

        “We are committed to becoming 100% plastic-free by 2030, and eliminating plastic from our gift bags is an important milestone in this journey,” said Rodolfo Nervi, Vice President of Global Safety, Quality and Sustainability at Bacardi. “For more than 160 years, we have been a pioneering company, and this is no different when it comes to going plastic-free. We will continue to innovate and explore new sustainable plastic alternatives, and this is something we should do.”

        As part of the company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program, Good As part of its “Spirited” initiative and in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Bacardi has set a series of goals to achieve by 2025. These goals, which are in addition to the company’s commitment to eliminate all plastic materials at points of sale by 2023 and its goal to be 100% plastic-free by 2030, include:

        ◆Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50%;

        ◆Reducing water consumption by 25%;

        ◆100% of key raw materials and packaging are sustainably sourced;
