Procter & Gamble and Dow have jointly launched the first new e-commerce packaging that has obtained dual-ease certification - the "Air Capsule" express packaging. It is innovatively developed by P&G and made of Dow materials.
The "Air Capsule" uses innovative packaging structure and material structure design, and uses Dow ELITTMAT high-performance resin in the material. This express packaging is made of a single recyclable material, without the need for cartons, fillers and tapes. And while enhancing the pressure resistance, it reduces the packaging weight by 40%, making it a 100% recyclable environmentally friendly packaging.
"Air capsules" require good gas barrier properties to prevent gas leakage and keep the packaging full, thereby playing a buffering and protective role for the goods. Since traditional PE itself has poor gas barrier properties, it needs to be co-extruded with nylon to achieve the gas barrier effect. However, nylon co-extruded structural packaging is difficult to recycle by conventional methods. Compared with traditional PE materials, Dow ELITTMAT high-performance resin has better gas barrier properties and can achieve gas barrier effects in packaging film structures in some fields, helping to remove nylon and form an easy-to-recycle full PE structure. This resin material not only has excellent gas barrier properties and can provide buffering protection, but is also a single PE material structure, which can help achieve 100% recyclable packaging, reduce waste in the production process, and reduce costs.
In the field of sustainable development, Dow expects that by 2035, all products sold to packaging applications will be 100% reusable or recyclable. Procter & Gamble expects to achieve 100% recyclable or reusable packaging by 2030. This time, the two parties will work together to innovate and contribute to the goal of sustainable development.
