Henkel’s laundry detergents are now packaged in a mono-material film containing 30% PCR, developed by Korozo Group and Ecoplast, to comply with the recycling requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
Ecoplast, a member of the Borealis Group, provided the PCR material. Its LDPE recycled material is ISCC Plus and EuCertplast certified, meaning the recycled content can be tracked and traced throughout the value chain. Borcycle CWT100VL grade was used for the packaging as its low gel content was considered to provide high optical and print quality for shelf appeal, as well as the mechanical properties required to keep the product safe.
Korozo then laminated the PCR material into a mono-material structure and printed it on its high-end printing presses and bag-making lines. Today, Henkel has already used the new packaging in its laundry detergent brands such as Persil. The new packaging is already available in Central and Eastern Europe.
“We are delighted to be able to leverage our global leadership in flexible packaging to contribute to the creation of this innovative, circular solution,” said Fatih Ólmre, Technical Account Manager for Consumer Packaging at Korozo Group. “Collaboration across the value chain is essential to deliver sustainable packaging solutions and transition to a circular economy.”
With the upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation mandating minimum recycled content in plastic packaging – including 35% PCR in recyclable film by 2030 – and requiring all packaging sold on the EU market to be recyclable, Korozo hopes its solution will help brands comply with these regulations.
