Industry applications of carbon-reduced PCR materials

Source:     Time: 2022-03-25

Under the severe conditions of energy shortage and climate change, PCR has become popular. Under the hot trend of "carbon reduction", many end users have been at the forefront of "carbon reduction" and reduced the carbon content of their products from the source of materials.

        Automotive Industry

According to the official website of the Passenger Car Market Information Joint Conference, the sales share of new energy vehicles has increased since 2021, which shows that the proportion of the automotive industry market is tilted towards the field of sustainable development under the guidance of various policies. Some automotive OEMs have taken positive actions, such as Volkswagen's commitment to achieve carbon neutrality/green environmental protection and zero emissions by 2050. Renault has pledged to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% from 2010 levels and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Compared to cars, electric vehicles emit only half as much greenhouse gas as fuel vehicles over their entire life cycle.

         Home appliance industry

There are many products in the home appliance industry that use carbon-reducing materials. For example, Electrolux developed a vacuum cleaner made of 100% recycled and reused materials in 2020 by recycling consumer electronics products such as used hair dryers and vacuum cleaner parts. Another example is that Google's new smart home products have a high content of recycled materials, with the Nest thermostat and smart speaker containing 75% and 70% recycled plastics, respectively. Beko, a European white goods brand, practices harmony between man and nature and has developed a series of home appliances, about 15% of which are made of plastic parts from waste plastics.

        OA industry

There are many mature products in the OA industry as well as the home appliance industry. For example, Microsoft's "carbon reduction" extends from the product itself to the product packaging. The environmentally friendly wireless mouse they produce has 20% of its shell made of marine recycled plastics, and the packaging box is made of 100% recycled materials. In addition, 40% of Konica Minolta's printer shell comes from Kumho Sunny Ecoblend® PCR plastic. Coincidentally, Lenovo's new AIO520 desktop computer shell in 2021 also uses PCR plastic. It is worth mentioning that the shell material used in this desktop computer is both PCR plastic and Plastic® aesthetic plastic. This plastic is a one-time injection molding, which can reduce carbon emissions during the processing process and is also easy to recycle.
