Kao hair brand develops sustainable packaging to reduce plastic usage by 80%

       Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, is working with Japanese consumer goods manufacturer Kao to create a recyclable, lightweight and sustainable packaging solution for its Goldwell hair lightening products. The new stand-up pouch reduces the use of plastic without compromising strength and durability, supporting Kao and its hair business’ efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and helping the hair division run their business more sustainably. Through the partnership with Mondi and its EcoSolutions program, Kao has already reduced its use of plastic by 80%.

       Mondi’s innovative solution packages the powdered product in a reusable stand-up pouch that is made from a single material and is fully recyclable.

       Empty bags can be folded flat to ensure efficient transportation to the factory. When filled, they provide optimal protection for the product inside the bag, preventing contact with moisture or steam. This packaging is completely safe, as chemicals cannot diffuse through the tightly sealed packaging. For convenience, the packaging also comes with a recyclable top slider and moisture-proof film for easy reclosing.
