ALPLA is continuing its global expansion into the circular economy with the expansion of its recycling plant in Poland. The internationally active packaging and recycling specialist is investing around EUR 8 million in a third extrusion line. Annual production capacity will increase from 30,000 to 54,000 tonnes of food-grade PET recycled material (r-PET). This makes Radomsko, Poland, one of the largest recycling plants of its kind in Europe.
8 million euro investment to produce 54,000 tons of food-grade r-PET per year
ALPLA is securing a long-term supply of food-grade r-PET by expanding its recycling plant in Radomsko. The internationally active company is investing around 8 million euros in a state-of-the-art extrusion line. Ten years after its opening, Radomsko is one of the largest recycling plants for this material in Europe, producing 54,000 tons of food-grade r-PET granules per year.
“As a system supplier, we develop products optimized for recycling, process high recycling rates in production and take responsibility for efficient recycling,” explains Dietmar Marin, General Manager of ALPLA Recycling. “With our global focus on recycling and our commitment in Central and Eastern Europe, we are making a significant contribution to the bottle-to-bottle cycle in the region.”
Driving PET Bottle Recycling
By 2025, all PET beverage bottles in the EU should contain at least 25% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material. With the expansion of the Polish plant, ALPLA is laying the foundations for meeting EU requirements in the regional market. "We actively work with our customers to create closed loops for PET packaging and accompany them on the path to sustainability. To this end, we are working hard to meet tomorrow's needs and already have some excellent examples in reality," emphasizes Mariusz Musiaov, ALPLA's manager in Poland.
ALPLA expands recycling facilities worldwide
ALPLA invests around €50 million per year in the global expansion of its recycling activities. With lighthouse projects such as reusable PET, bottles made of 100% r-PET, and the recent start of production at the joint venture recycling plant ENVICCO (Thailand) and PET recycling team Targu Mures (Romania), the company is on the right track. In June 2023, the company announced the establishment of Africa's first recycling plant in Bellito, South Africa. The annual production capacity of the recycling company and partner companies is approximately 266,000 tons of r-PET and 74,000 tons of r-HDPE.
