The NEO WTR range produced by Brookfield Drinks is the first bottle in the mineral water category to be made from 100% recycled plastic from Trendy Plastics, with a recyclable cap and label.
Each 500ml NEO WTR bottle = 1.7 plastic bottles
It is predicted that by 2050, the weight of plastic in our oceans may exceed that of fish. The bottle developed by NEO WTR can help significantly slow the damage caused by marine plastic pollution to marine life.
Each 500ml NEO WTR bottle can reduce the equivalent of 1.7 plastic bottles (based on an average bottle weight of 20 grams. Weighing activities conducted by the Southeast Asian Ocean Plastics Supply Chain Prevention Organization in July 2023, including transparent and light blue material grades, excluding caps and labels) entering the ocean, and is recycled from waste plastic materials recovered from coastlines at risk of marine plastic pollution.
NEO WTR uses natural spring water from Somerset, UK, and is bottled in the UK with fully recyclable bottles, labels and caps. This innovative experience product will be available on the shelves of TESCO supermarkets from June this year. Nigel McNally, Managing Director of NEO WTR, said: "Bottled soft drink manufacturers are facing increasing public pressure to come up with solutions to prevent global disasters."
Help to tackle ocean plastic pollution
All NEO WTR bottles are produced in the UK using 100% Prevented Ocean Plastic (excluding caps and labels), a high-quality, certified, award-winning recycled plastic collected from coastal areas at risk of ocean plastic pollution. The material used in NEO WTR comes from Indonesia, the world’s second largest polluter of ocean plastic.
The plastic material meets regulatory health and safety standards, can be traced back to the source and can be identified on the packaging by its unique triangle logo. Raffi Schieir, founder of the Prevented Ocean Plastic project, said: "No single company can tackle global challenges alone. Only through collective efforts and true collaboration can we work towards a brighter future. We are extremely proud of the NEO WTR team for joining Prevented Ocean Plastic. Their choice to turn recycled Ocean Plastic bottles into new bottles is a perfect example of a circular economy in action."
Traceability Standards for Ocean Plastics
Traceability Standards for Ocean Plastics
Since September 2022, the Plastic Recycling Branch of the China Synthetic Resin Association (CPRRA) has begun to formulate two group standards, namely "Traceability Requirements for Recycling of Waste Plastics Part 1: Post-Consumer Recycled Plastics" (Plan No. CSRA2022002) and "Traceability Requirements for Recycling of Waste Plastics Part 2: Marine Plastics (Plan No. CSRA2022003).
"Traceability Requirements for Recycling of Waste Plastics Part 2: Marine Plastics" specifies the traceability requirements for the source management, production, labeling and sales of marine and inland plastics in the process of physical recycling of plastics, as well as the traceability requirements for the chain of custody and recycled plastic content in the production, labeling and sales of modified plastics, plastic products and fiber products using marine and inland plastics. The standard divides and identifies recycling sources, encourages timely on-site recycling after water-related operations, and conducts initial source tracing of the source attributes and specific recycling locations of raw materials, records management truthfully and accurately, traces back to the source more accurately and directly, and clarifies the responsible entities for the generation of marine and inland water plastics.
