Veolia and Faurecia have formed a partnership aimed at using an average of 30% recycled plastic in car interiors by 2025, the French recycling company and the auto parts maker said in a joint statement.

The partnership, which will use recycled plastics in dashboards, door panels and center consoles for European cars, will reduce Faurecia's carbon footprint, help it advance its CO2 neutrality plan, and expand Veolia's product range to car interiors. "The use of recycled plastics is one of the key challenges in the ecological transition of the automotive industry. Today, most car interiors are made of virgin materials," the companies said in the statement.

Veolia, which recently completed its acquisition of rival Suez, will produce secondary raw materials at its existing recycling facilities in France from 2023.

"Veolia is increasing its plastic recycling capacity, investing continuously in the industrialization and expansion of our existing recycling facilities in France and worldwide, with the goal of reaching a turnover of 1 billion euros by 2025," said Estelle Brachlianoff, chief operating officer of Veolia, in the statement.
