Krones helps ShoulderFlex produce lightweight water bottles, saving 50% PET material

Krones has used its PET bottle manufacturing technology to launch a water bottle called ShoulderFlex, which weighs 5.9 grams. Compared with the traditional 0.5-liter water bottle on the market, it can save up to 50% of PET materials, making an important contribution to reducing the carbon footprint of bottled water.

Krones' innovative bottle design technology is said to be able to be used to manufacture sustainable and lightweight containers. The advantages of this technology are also obvious in the production and processing stages of the bottles. Even without the stabilization effect of ammonia pressurization, these bottles have excellent stackability and can hold a maximum load of 40 kg.

"One of Krones’ visions is the responsible use of packaging materials. This includes developing sustainable packaging solutions that are not only resource-efficient but also practical. The ShoulderFlex water bottles meet these requirements perfectly,” explain Martin Loist and Jochen Forsthovel, members of the Krones development team. “Although less PET is required to produce them, these containers are in no way inferior to conventional bottles currently on the market in terms of stability and convenience.” The water bottle was also awarded the German Packaging Award.
